DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The main inspiration is the famous video game invented in 1984. Everyone played it once, it's fun, timeless, simple like this furniture design system" since 1984".
Back in the 1984 the year of the big bother and explosion of the pop culture a faboulous video game was invented. This is a tribute, a furniture modular system to play with while designing your own space!
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to create a fun modular system for small living spaces but also adaptable to loft or spacious showrooms or schools.
The versatility of this system gives the users infinite possibilites to change, design their own spaces.
I wanted to create a simple piece of furniture that allow everyone to play and be designer themselves being conscious of flexibility and sustainability.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Production and Sales.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: During last semester at the University, while I was lecturing my students about using sustainable materials, innovative systems, be creative and think about flexibility and modularity I decided I wanted to design a new furniture line for our company, dopamine design.
After a bit of thinking this old concept came up and I decided to create a system for houses or commercial spaces with it. I wanted also to have fun with my design creating something for my own house! the prototype is still here in my living room and I love it. I discovered that all the time I'm getting bored about one shape i can play and modify it as I want.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: The design will be produced from another company.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: While we were building the prototype my dad helped to create a top that could be removed adding an additional " storage " value to the products. We also talked about using Felt ( my step mother suggested so) or Other fabrics to make the seat more comfortable or kids friendly.
I thank them for their support and creative minds.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The System could be modified (painted/upholstered/leave it natural) depending on the users.
Young professionals loved the idea to have it at home, students love it because it could be used for small spaces in different ways, teachers for their kids at the kindergarden, hotel managers for their lobby or vendors at their showrooms.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The simplicity. The heritage. Its incredible versatility.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: It's simply the year when the video game was invented.
the word " since" was added to give the design some sort of elegance and importance!
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: I sketched it with my black muni pen, then i modeled it with Rhinoceros3D.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: My dad build the prototype.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: Everyone loved it so I just decided to give it a try.
