DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The roadblock for temporary warning is often knocked down to hinder the traffic order during use, so a kind of roadblock, which can stand up automatically and rapidly, is proposed to solve this problem.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The road cone can automatically return to the upright state by virtue of the low center of gravity and outside curve of base when it tilts or is overturned. It not only improves the safety in road traffic but also is easy to be transported because of its hollow structure. Based on this principle, such roadblocks can be shaped different to be used in different places.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Improve, and try to sell
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: More than a year
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: Decide to pursuit an inspiration
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: All possible
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: The existing roadblock is very easy to be knocked down by people and vehicles to roll on a road during use. This will not only be likely to damage the roadblock but also hinder the traffic order and affect the warning effect. Even though more weight is added to the base, such roadblock will also be knocked down, causing more potential safety hazards.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: A toy, tumber, for my inspiration.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Rubber products company, products merchants, some traffic management companies
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Design for solving problems. And develop the “self-return” structure.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: We want to express this rockblock can fast return by itself. The roadblock, which can stand upright on the road forever, can stand up rapidly after being knocked down like an unbeatable soldier.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: 3D software:Alisa. More time is model test.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The road cone can automatically return to the upright state by virtue of the low center of gravity and outside curve of base when it tilts or is overturned. It not only improves the safety in road traffic but also is easy to be transported because of its hollow structure.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: Only my team and tooling engineer.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Help us verify the rationality of the structure, and make mechanical analysis.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: We spend more time on controlling the steep of “self-return”.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: It’s rather difficult to find a proper center of gravity and it is also difficult to design a reasonable outside curve. Proper weight distribution and curve design can help the roadblock to stand up rapidly after being knocked down. For this purpose, we have tried to make a lot of models.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: Design competition can give my design an objective assessment.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: More model test is good.
