DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: • Grandmother’s house is highly linked to our childhood, with all those different retro objects, that to our eyes seem old fashioned and without any practical use. Evenmore the Decorative lace called “semen” or “semedakia” which covers the various furniture is indicative of that age mindset and culture. This memorable retro-beauty gave me the inspiration for the project
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Irrelevant to the award, I want to start producing it, together with the other objects that I have designed. The award encouraged me to proceed
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I participated to Santorini Biennale of Arts in 2012 with the topic of “past & memory” which inspired me to create a series of objects, among them was the side table “seme”
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I own the exclusive rights of “seme”. It is not produced or used from any other firm and I plan to produce and promote it together with other design items that I have created. I am open although to discuss any other proposal that will be aligned to our design vision.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: It is difficult to mention some names. The overall influence comes from Modernism, which in conjunction with modern technologies, is always present in my design.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Any one at any age all lover the globe that loves the beauty and the fresh ness that design items can bring to his / her life
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Semedakia or semen are the Greek words for decorative lace furniture runners and doilies that was highly used to decorate furniture all over Greece during 60’s, 70’s or even 80’s. From these words I created the name “seme”
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
