DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Luxury, rich color, purchase value preserved, big, bold, fashionable.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to create big jewelry with big color - something that was along the lines of big colorful costume jewelry, but with real gemstones. So colorful and a bit unreal, almost like candy jewelry. But after purchase, there is still a monetary value because it is made from valuable material. But not the same price as top or even good quality gems. The focus here is on the color and glow - not on top quality. The idea is that the jewelry can still be affordable.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: May be limited production sometime in the future
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: it took approximately 6 months from start to production of this complete prototype
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: This was pursuit of an inspiration. There is nothing like this in the market at a "reasonable" price - no comparison. But I do believe there is a market for it.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: could be any, but right now is not in production. There are also many variations in many different precious and semi-precious gemstones.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: It was designed with a certain target market in mind. Also, rather than spend money for something that really doesn't have any value after purchase like costume jewelry, these pieces do have some value after purchase. The idea is big costume sized jewelry with real gemstones and gold.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Yes - someone I knew designing big beautiful and colorful costume jewelry - it inspired the idea to do big colorful jewelry out of real gemstones
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Younger some what affluent girls/women who love fashion and jewelry.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: It is big, real gemstones. But since the focus is more on the color than the quality, the price is actually much lower than the equivalent carat weight of top or good quality gemstone jewelry.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The name comes from part of the inspiration - the candy jewelry my sisters had when we were young.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The weave makes an interesting pattern to compliment the gemstones - connected circles
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I did it actually to inspire someone else...
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Lazer cut holes
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The small holes, finding the correct wire to fit that is also strong enough. If this were to go into production, finding the skilled beaders to do the work would be a challenge.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I knew it was a good design - I wanted to see how it would fare in a competition. Unfortunately, it is really difficult to photograph and capture the true effect of the rubies and the light.
