DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The idea for the panel material (OSB) started by a need to design something unique for a customer's loft renovation. Finally, we proceeded with a known kitchen brand, but wanted to develop the kitchen composition as an experimental project of kitchen design.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: A composition using aluminium module frames, while the main goal was to deviate from the standard laminate box module inside in typical white, grey or natural wood finish-lacquer finish or natural wood for the outside.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: We would like the basic frame for the module to be developed and probably see the production line.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: About two months-non continuous work of course-of interrupted involvement.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It started from an inspiration and was developed following this inspiration.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: We plan to work more on it and hopefully find a ktichen brand interested in that design.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Need to experiment, innovate and deviate from standardisation. There is alot of it, in material use and typologies that make most of the kitchen models difficult to identify origin and brand.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: There are certain italian brands that have innovated so greatly in material use (stone, concrete, metal), compositions and of course aesthetics. We specify those brands in our interior projects and we greatly admire them for what they have achieved and offered.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: We haven't really thought of it.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The aluminium profile for the main structure, the OSB panels and the two peninsulas.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: It means providing an alternative frame for thought or discourse about sustainability and ecology.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: 3DCad Pytha, modeler and renderer, were used by Anastasia.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The difference lies in the basic module that starts the composition, which is aluminium and the inside-outside panelling which is OSB boards.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: It was designed by BllendDesignTeam using our knowledge about kitchen typologies and ergonomics.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Very common tehcnology in aluminiun production.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The research feedback is actually working on kitchen compositions for many years, for various customers, and of course the kitchen typologies available in the market by well respected brands.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: I think the most challenging will be working on this design for manufacturing or model testing. Mock ups then will reveal the real challenge-negative or positive.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: It is the most indicative approach to test the feasibility of a design, by a jury composition that guarantees unbiased judgement and design authority.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: It is easier to custom design for a specific project, than have a more wide target group in mind.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
: We believe that kitchen compositions are an integral part of social trends and structures, and as that reflecting also family and social roles and patterns it needs more investigation and analysis for the years to come.
