We had the distinct pleasure to interview award winning designer Yu-Ngok Lo about their original and creative Residence design work. Yu-Ngok Lo is an award-winning architectural designer, that makes our world a better place with their original residence works.
Yu-Ngok Lo ("YL") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Cheung's Residence Residence. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
YL : My main focus has been the simplicity of the design. With a limited budget, it is important to design something that is simple and functional. Also, at the same time, the basic sustainable needs shall be fulfilled. By maximizing the amount of natural light and celebrating openness, I ended up with a design that is relatively clean and simple.
YL : I hope this house can be realized in real life.
YL : About a week
YL : It was a design commission, the goal is to help the client getting what she needs (with all the program requirements) within a reasonable budget while expressing a certain level of aesthetic statement.
YL : I have always wanted to design single family residences. I think the program requirement is usually less complex which in turn gives me more flexibility in terms of design expression.
YL : Site constraint and limited budget. Local zoning requirements limited the shape of the building and the simple facade is a result of putting construction cost in mind.
