DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: We have got the inspiration from the institution of marriage.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The project of the wedding stool started in November 2009 and finished in February 2010 in Athens. It was exhibited in SaloneSatellite 2010 in Milan, among our design items. During the days of the exhibition, people from all over the world tried it, used it, enjoyed it and expressed their liking of the wedding stool in a warm and encouraging way.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: We pursuited our inspiration.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Anyone who is fond of design, versatility and fun and is in favor of eco-friendly practices.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The wedding stool not only unites wood and metal in holy matrimony, before the eyes of design, but it also places the user on top of the ring instead of a diamond! It is lightweight and easy to carry around- the metallic part can be used as a handle. The wedding stool is certainly not a boring everyday item as it enables the user to customize his own stool by choosing his favorite colors. The wedding stool is made of plywood and aluminum, both recyclable and sustainable materials.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The "wedding stool" name derives from the poor institution of marriage. Two different elements are united to build a solid item, but the minute we are bored we can change the metallic component. Ring any bells?
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The wedding stool combines the cold and industrial metallic element with the earthy and warm element of wood. The unique feature of this design lies in the fact that the metallic part of the stool is exchangeable as it clasps and unclasps on the wooden part very easily. Due to this function the wedding stool gives a playful and humorous aspect on the ordinary stool. From our point of view the wedding stool unites wood and metal in holy matrimony, before the eyes of design! At least their marriage will last!
