DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: MuscleGuru was inspired by the growing number of young adults who were passionate about muscle training but struggled to find a fitness app that catered to their specific needs. I noticed that many existing fitness apps were cardio-focused and weight loss-centric, leaving muscle training enthusiasts without a personalized and entertaining solution. This gap in the market motivated us to create MuscleGuru, a fitness app that not only helps users achieve their health goals through muscle training but also offers customization, gamified experiences, and comprehensive tracking of various aspects of daily life contributing to overall well-being.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took me about half a year to finalize it.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was a design pursuit driven by the recognition of a gap in the market and the desire to provide a solution for muscle training enthusiasts. Through research and feedback from potential users, it became evident that existing fitness apps lacked a focus on muscle training and customization, and often failed to provide an entertaining and engaging experience.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: There are two aspects. The first is market gap: Through market research and user feedback, it became apparent that there was a significant gap in the market for fitness apps that catered specifically to muscle training enthusiasts. Many existing apps were cardio-centric or focused on weight loss, leaving muscle training enthusiasts without a tailored solution. Recognizing this gap, I saw an opportunity to design a product that met the specific needs of this target audience.
Secondly, user demand. The increasing number of young adults showing a keen interest in muscle training and a desire for a healthier and stronger lifestyle also played a crucial role in the decision to design MuscleGuru.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The target customer for MuscleGuru is young adults who are passionate about muscle training and seek a fitness app that offers customization, personalized training plans, gamified experiences, and comprehensive tracking features.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: MuscleGuru stands out from other fitness apps in several ways. Firstly, it is specifically designed for muscle training enthusiasts, focusing on their unique needs and goals. Unlike many apps that have a cardio-centric approach, MuscleGuru provides a holistic solution with personalized training plans, gamified experiences, and comprehensive tracking features.
The app's customization feature allows users to tailor their training sessions by selecting specific muscles they want to focus on. This ensures that users receive targeted recommendations and workouts that align with their individual preferences and goals.
Furthermore, MuscleGuru offers a unique "battlefield" mode, where users can challenge other app users and view their training records in real-time. This gamified approach adds an element of competition and entertainment to the training experience, making it more engaging and motivating.
Lastly, MuscleGuru goes beyond just training and includes a food tracker that helps users maintain a balanced diet. The app calculates the optimal daily nutrition requirements and provides food suggestions accordingly. This integration of nutrition tracking with training allows users to have a comprehensive view of their overall fitness journey.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: I used Figma for wireframing and After Effects for animation.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: For making the design of MuscleGuru, I conducted market research to identify the existing gaps in the fitness app market and understand the specific needs and preferences of muscle training enthusiasts. I also gathered user feedback through surveys and interviews to gain insights into their pain points, desires, and expectations. This research helped me shape the concept and features of MuscleGuru to meet the target audience's requirements effectively.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: One of the main challenges was identifying and addressing the specific needs of muscle training enthusiasts. Finding a balance between customization, personalization, and entertainment while ensuring the app remained user-friendly and intuitive required thorough research and testing.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: By submitting MuscleGuru to a design competition, I aimed to receive valuable feedback and insights from experts in the field. The competition would provide an avenue for critical evaluation and validation of our design, helping us refine and improve the app further.
