Kyung il Chung ("KIC") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Sling Portable speaker. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
KIC : Sling is wireless speaker that actively invites the users to the sustainable design. The principle was to create a mechanism that will change the user behavior without having to add another step in product interaction and pulling the cord was the solution that is chosen for Sling.
KIC : The project started off as a sustainable design project. However, I wanted to move on from the current trend of material implementation and more actively involve the users to the environmental problem. By doing that I could have a freedom in aesthetics and mechanism therefore a new type of sustainable gadget was designed.
KIC : I would like to integrate the design to a brand. Branding is a strong motivator which in behavior change perspective, is one of the greatest driving force.
KIC : The project initially started off as a sustainable design research project. However I took the research value to more tangible concept. In total, the whole project took 3 months to develop.
