Interview with Nikolaos Karintzaidis at Wednesday 12th of August 2015: DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
NK : The relation of the building with the local environment and climate.

DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
NK : The intention was to create an artificial environment that works in synergy with the ocean.

DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
NK : To publish and proceed with the further development of the project.

DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
NK : About 1 year.

DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
NK : I decided to pursuit an inspiration.

DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
NK : This design describes research work.

DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
NK : My interest on sustainability.

DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
NK : No.

DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
NK : The public.

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
NK : Innovation.

DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
NK : The building itself is an enormous window to the ocean.

DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
NK : Hand sketching and BIM.

DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
NK : Its relation with the site.

DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
NK : Structural designers and Glass specialist have contributed as advisors to the development of the concept.

DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
NK : This project can't be realized without the development of a glass type that will meet the specified standards for the function of the particular building.

DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
NK : Extensive research was conducted regarding environmental and oceanographic data for Dubai.

DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
NK : This design describes research work.

DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
NK : I considered that the particular design meets the standards of an international design competition.

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
NK : As with every project, developing the specific concept allowed me to improve my design skills.
