DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
KNAW : KRYSTAL is luxurious bottled alkaline water produced for the most discerning and health conscious customers. The bottle design is rooted in our understanding of consumer’s desire for luxurious and healthy lifestyle. KRYSTAL comes in an iconic square transparent prism bottle which resembles a sparkling crystal, and does not compromise on quality and purity. The bottle design magnifies and accentuates the pristine pureness and crystal clear quality of KRYSTAL water, giving an added touch of elegance.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
KNAW : The bottle design combines aesthetics, functionality and environmental friendliness. The transparent and square PET bottle design of KRYSTAL water, with its smooth rounded edges, is visually striking and is easy to hold. In addition, the square-shaped bottle design is recyclable, optimizes packaging space and materials, thus lowers the overall carbon footprint.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
KNAW : The bottle design combines aesthetics, functionality and environmental friendliness. We will look for strategic partnership with local artists and NGOs to encourage re-use of bottles for community programmes and art installations.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
KNAW : Our company, Zun Hong Kong, came up with the design concept and was in charge of the whole design process.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
KNAW : KRYSTAL is a luxurious bottled alkaline water produced for the most discerning and health conscious customers. The bottle design magnifies and accentuates the pristine pureness and crystal clear of water. The elegant bottle is the perfect complement to luxury lifestyle.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
KNAW : We believe that the key differentiation is our commitment in producing the bottle design that combines aesthetics, functionality and environmental friendliness.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
KNAW : KRYSTAL is sourced from the pristine Lesser Khingan Mountains on the Chinese-Siberian frontier. The water is filtered through layers of volcanic, natural mineral rock, before reaching the Beian aquifer which is buried hundreds of meters below the Earth’s crust, serving as a fresh alkaline water cavern has been undiscovered for thousands of years. According to Dr Michael Mascha, a world renowned sommelier, KRYSTAL is graded “Superior” in terms of virginality (purity).
As such, our bottle design magnifies and accentuates the pristine pureness and crystal clear quality of KRYSTAL water, giving an added touch of elegance.
