Interview with GHOLAMALI BALOUCH at Sunday 15th of May 2011: DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
GB : the basic idea comes from the vintage video games(John Conway's Game of Life) and computer graphics in the late 70's and early 80's and tries to use it as a digitally created pattern applied on textile.

DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
GB : it's all about bringing the new possibilities to make things in a different specific making a wearable platform capable to interact and communicate with human .

DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
GB : this concept is capable to inspire fashion and high-tech consumer electronics industry to new solutions for intelligent materials and textiles.

DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
GB : entire process of design,research and prototyping took about 6 mouths.

DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
GB : this experimental project is considered as a part of bachelor study program in politecnico di milano.

DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
GB : in any case of interest,the prototype and all intellectual rights are transferable.

DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
GB : personal interest.

DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
GB : inspiration by John Conway and Vivienne westwood.

DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
GB : the art and design museums or R&D sectors in fashion and textile industries or show business or collection owner can be considered as customer.

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
GB : this is wearable and flexible,and the open source digital device bring variety of functions and aspects.

DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
GB : "fashion interaction" may suite well the whole idea behind this means to have a dialog with what you wear trough a digital device.

DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
GB : some traditional tools and Technics like pattern makings,swing Technics, and of course computer softwares like wiring program environmental.

DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
GB : combination of old and new makes it different: vintage computer graphics,modern electronic devices,retro fashion style,...

DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
GB : this is a solo project.

DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
GB : the inspiration,design,prototyping all are based on technology.

DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
GB : the research areas expend in different fields like:life style,art and culture and technological aspects in other hand, basically focused on 80's.

DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
GB : design the electronic devices ,large amount of wiring and swing job all done by hand.

DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
GB : to promote and interduce this concept and probably develop it.

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
GB : the fact of being independent helped much to resolve the unexpected problems.
